Three on trial for kidnapping, raping bank guard

Three Emiratis appeared before the Fujairah Criminal Court for allegedly kidnapping and raping a Nepalese woman guard and demanding a ransom for her release.

The court adjourned the hearing to August 1 on the request of the defence lawyer who wanted time to secure a translator, Khaleej Times reported on Thursday.

Court documents show that Yasser Salim Mohammed, a PRO at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in Fujairah, informed police on February 1 that an unknown man had kidnapped the security woman at the women’s branch of the bank. “He demanded Dh5,000 to set her free,” the PRO said.

After being arrested, the main accused confessed to the crime and said the other two jobless Emiratis had abducted and raped the woman.

Medical tests showed the woman was raped.
