Top court rejects woman’s deportation order

The UAE’s top court overturned previous sentences by Ajman courts to deport a woman on the grounds one judge violated the law when he took part in two separate court panels hearing the same case.

A court in the emirate had initially ordered deportation of the woman and fined her Dh1,000 for absconding from her sponsor and working for another employer.

An appeals court later acquitted the woman and annulled the previous sentence, prompting the prosecution to appeal again. She was again ordered deported by the Ajman Federal Court of First Instance.

'Alkhaleej' newspaper said the “foreign” woman appealed with the Federal Supreme Court (FSC) which overturned that verdict.

“The FSC found that one judge from the federal court panel which issued that verdict was in the panel which issued the first sentence…this means the judge looked into an appeal case, in which he was originally involved……this constituted a violation of the law and the judiciary system.”
