The Food Safety Department of Dubai Municipality has affirmed that it ensures safety and quality of all imported foods – including juices, reported Emarat Al Youm newspaper.

The department emphasised that it is controlling all food imports as well as monitoring factories, shops and cafeterias that manufacture or import juices and drinks.

Dubai Municipality’s remark came in the context of a response to the rumours circulating in the social media that apple seeds contain a high proportion of toxic cyanide.

Dubai Municipality rejected the rumours, saying that the apple seeds are not eaten by people because they have a bitter taste.

The regulatory body assured public that these seeds don’t cause any harm unless a very large quantity is consumed by a person.

The department noted that it doesn’t make sense that anyone will eat such a large quality of seeds that taste bitter.

The Municipality urged public not to pay heed to such rumours concerning food products and should communicate with the authorities concerned for correct scientific information on food safety and quality.
