A four-year-old child died on the spot after falling out of the window of an apartment in Sharjah on Monday evening.

The Indian child fell from the eighth floor of a residential building in Al Nahda.

The child was alone in the room while her mother was in the kitchen at the time of the incident.

Colonel Ahmed bin Hramoul of Lake Police Station said, according to the child’s mother, the window of the room was closed at the time of the incident. Not hearing the child’s voice for some time, the mother entered the room and found the child missing and the window open. Looking out, she saw her child lying on the ground below.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the child climbed on top of a table near the window, opened the window to look out, causing her to slip and fall to the ground. The child’s body was found soaked in blood.

The mother has been charged with negligence.

Colonel Sultan Abdullah Al Khayal, director of information and public relations of Sharjah Police, urged people to keep all furniture away from the window, which may enable the child to open the window after climbing the furniture.
