Two Arabs allegedly forged a driving licence for Dh20,000 and then boasted of their handiwork to a police informer, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

AMA, 41, a Jordanian shop manager and AMN, 48, a Sudanese sales executive, were using a forged driving licence.

Following a tip-off about someone providing fake driving licences the police arranged a trap.

A police informer approached the suspect who asked him to look for people willing to be issued driving licences.

“The informer was supplied with a passport photocopy of an Iranian and Dh20,000 of the police.

“The informer handed the passport photocopy to AMA and after a couple of days they agreed to meet.

“In a coffee shop near Al Muraqqabat police station the suspect arrived and sat on a table and I was sitting on another one.

“The police informer arrived and handed over the Dh20,000 and collected the forged driving licence.

“We immediately arrested the two red handed with the police amount with them,” testified second Corporal Mohammed Khalifa.

Outside the coffee shop, another policeman saw the suspect taking something from a Sudanese.

“The Sudanese left the place walking and I followed him.

“As he arrived at his car he was arrested.

“Asking him about the source of the driving licence that he handed it to AMA, he said that a compatriot man called BA had asked him to hand over the licence to AMA,” testified Second Corporal Abdullah Thabet.

Forensics reported that the licence was forged.

Police found out the licence was expired and had belonged to a Filipina 10 years ago.

The accused replaced the woman’s picture with that of the Iranian whose passport photocopy was handed to them by the informer.

Indian faked NOC

In a second case, a 24-year-old site supervisor who forged a no-objection certificate (NOC) to obtain a driving licence was exposed in the most bizarre circumstances.

MAJ Indian was caught out while paying a fine for speeding.

In a case before the Dubai Criminal Court, MAJ is accused of forging his company manager’s signature on an NOC for obtaining a driving licence.

After getting the licence MAF then proceeded to take a company car for a drive without the approval of his employer.

He drove it on Al Maidan road for half an hour and ended up speeding.

The car was in the name of his employer KH, who received an SMS of the fine.

The 45-year-old owner, KH, Indian, testified that he was outside the country when he received a message from Dubai Police.

“A week later I arrived in the country and investigated the fine and found out that the accused confessed drove the car. He then confessed to forging the NOC letter to obtain a driving licence,” he testified.

The Court will reconvene on December 23.
