The Dubai Criminal Court heard the case of two Bangladesh nationals involved in the kidnapping of a compatriot whom they assumed was a police informer.

MHRM, 32, a jobless man, is facing three charges according to the prosecution.

The first is detaining, along with two other fugitives, a compatriot thinking he had notified police that they were running a prostitution den and to force him drop a labour case he had filed against his sponsor.

The second is entering the country without a passport or an entry permit. The third is re-entering the country despite being deported without obtaining permission from the Minister of Interior.

SHM, 30, a salesman, is accused of refraining from informing authorities about the kidnapping despite having the knowledge.

Mohammed Niwas Hassan, 28, a clerk, told the prosecution that a day before his kidnap he received a call from his sponsor IS asking him to submit his labour card to get his passport.

The following day, last December 13, he received a call from SHM who asked him to come to IS’s grocery in the Naif area to get his passport. When he reached the grocery, four people kidnapped and took him to a house in Sharjah where they tortured him. The kidnappers asked him to call his father and tell him that he is in Abu Dhabi.

Using his mobile, the kidnappers called IS who allegedly told him what he was facing was because he had filed a complaint against him at the Labour Ministry. He also heard them saying he is the one who informed police about their illegal activities.

As they threatened to kill and cut him into pieces, he begged them to do whatever they wanted and release him. They accepted on the ground that he will not tell police.

The victim’s father, who was worried about his son’s call, had notified a friend called Hilal Mir and the later notified police.

IS, 31, Emirati businessman, denied involvement in the kidnapping, about which he knew from the grocery’s salesman.

Hilal Mir, 26, employee, told the prosecution he learned about the victim being assaulted and kidnapped from the grocery from shops in the neighbourhood.

Abbas Mohsen, 23, policeman, told the prosecution the victim’s father had notified police about his son being kidnapped from Naif. The grocery’s salesman denied having any knowledge about the kidnapping and claimed he came to know about it from other people in the area.

Sayed Suhail, 34, a Pakistani taxi driver, told police that on December 15 he dropped the victim in Al Muteena. As he looked worried and had bruises on his face, the driver asked him the reason. The victim told him that he was kidnapped three days ago. While he was still in the taxi, Naif police called him and asked him to come to the police station.

In the court yesterday, the two accused denied the charges and the court adjourned the case to September 26.
