Two housemaids are in the dock for robbing their employers during their stay with the respective families in Dubai.

In two similar cases that came up for hearing at Dubai Criminal Court on Monday, a 24-year-old Filipina RJJ and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi STA face charges of stealing money from the households where they were employed.

While the Filipina maid RJJ stole a total of Dh56,000 over a year's time, the Bangladeshi woman faces charges of stealing money in various currencies from her employer.

The Filipina maid's employer Maryam noticed money missing from her cashbox ever since the maid joined the family.  Her son Khalid, 33, told police that his mother noticed that a large sum of Dh24,000 was missing from her money box kept in her bedroom.

On being question by police, she confessed of having stolen a total of Dh56,000.

In the second case, Bangladeshi STA was accused of stealing Dh7,205, $100, A$1,040, Canadian$20, and SR160 from her employer Asem Mumtaz.
Noticing missing money, her employer's wife Shaban Asem on July 12 searched the maid's room with the help of her Pakistani nephew Mohammed Omar.

Later Omar testified before the prosecution that apart from the currencies, he also found two diamond rings and gold earrings hidden under the maid's bed.

Although the maid confessed of stealing the ornaments and much of the money recovered, she said the Dh7,205 was in fact sent by her sister's husband to get him a UAE visa.

Both cases will be heard by again on Thursday.
