Sharjah traffic jams will soon be a thing of the past as two new bridges and a series of renovation work are being scheduled.

Two bridges with five lanes each will be constructed at the Khalid Lagoon entrance, apart from Sharjah and Al Khaledeya bridges, said Yousef Al Suwaiji, Director-General, Directorate of Public Works (DPW), Sharjah.

The intersection near the government buildings at Al Leyyah area will be renovated with the inclusion of a bridge to ease traffic towards the government department area for motorists coming from Al Mamzar. Another bridge to facilitate smooth traffic flow from government department buildings to Al Arouba Street is also planned, reported Gulf Today.

Al Arouba Street will also be renovated shortly. The renovation work will start from the current bridge between Al Majreeh and Um Trafa area until Al Khaledeya area near Al Huda Mosque.

Similarly, the intersection near Al Jubail Souq will be spruced up to turn it into an intersection with bridges, the paper added.

Al Suwaji was quoted as saying that intersections near the area where the project will be taking place will also be renovated to ensure no traffic blocks while the construction is going on.

The work will be undertaken in cooperation with the relevant government departments, he said.
