Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened two new roads costing Dh11.6 million in the east of the emirate on Sunday to boost infrastructure and ease traffic flow, according to a top official.

Suleiman Al Hajiri, Director-General, Roads Affairs, RTA Sharjah, said, the projects are in accordance with the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The first road costing Dh9m leads to the government accommodation at Tahil area while the second road, built at a cost of Dh2.6m, leads to the government accommodation at Wishah area.

Both the roads are two-lane routes. “The one-direction road connects Tahil area with Rafiaa-Zubair road, which is connected with the bypass road via the Zubair tunnel and Sharjah-Dhaid road at intersection No10,” Hajiri said.

The 7.3m wide road is 7.1km long and is equipped with 2.5m wide gravel head shoulders at both sides, apart from lighting and underground and crossing pipes for future services.

The Tahil road has been supported with all facilities, traffic safety requirements, and signboards along the road to ease traffic flow.

Meanwhile, in Wishah area, “the one-direction road connects Wishah area with the Dhaid-Madam road via the Wishah tunnel,” he added.

Hajiri said these projects are designed to accommodate current and future needs of urban expansion in the region, enhance traffic flow, and raise the standard of living of residents therein.

“RTA Sharjah is dedicated to improving the quality of roads to cope with the underway plans for urban development and economic and tourism, as well as the steady increase of population and the movement of transport.”
