Typing institutes in Dubai will henceforth be penalised for any mistake they make.

According to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs Dubai (DNRD) the new mechanism will involve imposing of black points as well as financial fines for typos made by typing offices, reported 'Al Ittihad' newspaper. In worse-case scenarios, the institute can be ordered to close down, it added.

According to Lt Col Khalid Al Razouqi, Assistant Director-General for e- services, DNRD, the new mechanism aims to organise the functioning of typing offices which include classification of users as per registration procedures for individuals and companies. Similarly, fees applied and mistakes committed will also be recorded, he added.

He said 'big mistakes', which will call for financial penalties, include errors in the names of applicants and their nationalities. 'Minor mistakes' such as errors in telephone numbers will earn typing institutes black points. And in cases of accumulation of black points, the institute will be fined, Al Razouqi added.

Under the new mechanism, each employee at typing offices will have an individual password to log into the system, in order to easily track mistakes. This system will help reduce mistakes as of late there has been an increase in the number of complaints by applicants, Al Razouqi added.

There are more than 2,000 such offices operating in Dubai.
