Tyre blasts caused by soaring summer temperatures caused 86 accidents that killed seven people in Abu Dhabi in the first half of 2015, according to police.

The accidents also resulted in the injury of 79 people, including 13 serious injuries, after most of the vehicles involved overturned.

“Drivers should always test their car tyres before travelling long distances in summer as high temperatures on the road cause damage to the tyres,” said Brigadier Khamis Ishaq, Acting Director, Abu Dhabi Traffic Police.

Quoted by the Arabic language daily ‘Al Ittihad’, he urged drivers who have such accidents not to leave damaged tyres on the road as they could cause more mishaps.
