UAE anti-drug net fishes out sailor with 5.9kg hashish

Joint action by the Anti-Narcotic Departments of Dubai and Sharjah has led to the arrest of an Asian on charges of trafficking drugs into the country.

The accused, identified as PH, aged 31, is a sailor on a merchant ship.

An official source at Dubai’s Anti-Narcotics Department confirmed that the arrest and said the two agencies had received a tip-off about a man in possession of a large quantity of narcotics.

The intelligence suggested that he was to hand over the drugs to a person in the country after he had received instructions from a third person residing in a neighbouring Asian country.

A Dubai and Sharjah joint team arrested the accused in Sharjah with a plastic bag containing 5.9kg of hashish.

The accused has been referred to the Public Prosecution in Sharjah.
