The UAE Central Bank is preparing a list of blacklisted bankers who should not be given jobs within the country’s banking system to prevent risks to their operations, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

In a circular sent to the UAE’s 51 banks and other financial institutions, Central Bank Governor Sultan bin Nassir Al Suwaidi said an electronic list of blacklisted bankers would soon be available to banks so they will avert hiring any of them.

He said the blacklist would include bankers and other employees who have been sacked by financial establishments in the UAE and other countries for “professional offences and other reasons to be outlined in the blacklist system.”

“The new system will allow banks to ensure that job candidates do not include undesired persons…this will enable them to have the proper candidates and lessen potential risks in the future,” Suwaidi said, according to Emarat Al Youm daily.

“Banks operating in the UAE should not appoint any person whose name is included in the new list to be provided by the Central Bank.”
