UAE bans export of bottled water

Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, issued on Thursday a resolution banning the export of bottled water produced from groundwater to any destination outside the country.

This is based on the decision of the Ministerial Council for Services for the year 2012 regarding the recommendations of the Federal National Council on "Water Resources and Bottled Water".

The decision aims at promoting water security in the country and the protection of groundwater resources from depletion and its development to ensure sustainability for the current and future generations.

The resolution banned the export of bottled water produced from groundwater outside the state and granted water plants and companies exporting bottled water produced from groundwater, six months to put things in order in this regard.
