The Ministry of Labour has nnounced that Sunday, January 1, 2012 will be a holiday for the private sector in the UAE.
A statement issued by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, said all companies and private sector firms need to pay the workers for the off-day to mark the beginning of the New Year.
He sent his best wishes to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates.
He wished also wished the people of the UAE.
New Year holiday for federal government announced
The Federal ministries and entities will be off work next Sunday, the 1st of January 2012, to mark the new year, according to a circular issued on Monday by Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Government Human Resources Authority.
The circular, which based on Law no 11 of 2008 on government human resources, said work will resume on Monday, 2nd of January 2012.
Al Qattami congratulated President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Their Highnesses, Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates and people of the UAE on the occasion.
Banks will remain closed on Jan.1
The UAE Central Bank announced on Monday that banks will remain closed on January 1, 2012 to mark the New Year.
The banks shall resume on January 2, 2012.
The apex bank told local banks to ensure that their ATMs are properly stocked with cash at all times.
