UAE families spend 23% of income on food

Families in the UAE spend nearly 23 per cent of their monthly income on food, one of the highest levels in the world.

Despite a decline in the prices of some foodstuffs, the average family spending on food soared to 23 per cent last year from around 16.6 pe4r cent in 2010, official data showed.

“This shows the UAE families lack the right consumption culture and adopt shopping as their lifestyle,” said Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the consumer protection section at the Ministry of Economy.
