UAE Forecast: Rough weather, strong winds; mercury to dip

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has warned public not to venture into sea for the next three days due to rough weather and strong winds forecasts. The centre also advised motorists to be cautious while driving, due to low visibility caused by dust and sandstorms.

"As a result of an extension of surface low pressure from the east , with the presence of high pressure on Saudi Arabia will cause a strong pressure gradient between the high and low pressure, that will accelerate the Northwesterly winds from North Arabian Gulf," a statement by the NCMS said today.

According to the NCMS, the country will be affected by fresh to strong northwesterly winds by Saturday late night and Sunday early morning, which may cause blowing dust and sand and reducing horizontal visibility, with a significant fall in temperatures over most areas of the UAE.

"The amount of clouds will increase at times, especially over the coastal areas and Islands. Sea will be rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf and sometimes rough in the Sea of Oman," it added.

The NCMS predicted that the prevailing fresh to strong northwesterly winds will continue on Monday and Tuesday, especially over sea, causing some blowing dust/sand and reduce the horizontal visibility over the open land areas, with another fall in temperatures over most areas on Monday, and partly cloudy at times. Sea will be rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf and rough in the Sea of Oman.
