UAE gives Dh462m for urgent Aden projects
The UAE is pumping nearly Dh462 million to fund urgent social projects in liberated Aden covering the relatives of those killed in the conflict and reconstruction of war-damaged facilities, the semi-official UAE daily 'Al Ittihad' said on Monday.
The projects include mainly rehabilitation of education institutions, hospitals, power stations, police centres, sewage networks, Aden airport, presidential palaces, passport and immigration departments, and establishments for persons with special needs.
The paper said the projects are financed and managed by the UAE Red Crescent Society, which has played a major role in rebuilding in conflict-battered Yemen, where a Saudi-led Arab coalition is fighting to restore the legitimate government.
“The UAE’s efforts have allowed many schools in Aden to return to normal. As far as I know, the UAE has extended nearly Dh80 million for the education sector in Aden,” said Salim Maglas, director of the Aden Education Department.
The report said the projects funded by the UAE include the rehabilitation of 18 police stations in Aden and the supply of police cars, communication systems and other equipment needed by the police to ensure security in the city.
