Abu Dhabi police arrested an Iraqi man and an Emirati woman accused of embezzling more than Dhtwo million from an Arab family by promising its members to help them obtain the UAE citizenship.
The couple told the Arab woman seeking UAE passports for her long-staying family that they know influential persons at the immigration department and that they would support her application for a citizenship.
The Emirati, a former work colleague of that woman, first asked for Dh600,000 before she and her accomplice drained the family’s life savings of nearly 2.84 million. Only then, the woman decided to report them to the police, who arrested the two and referred them to the prosecution.
“The prosecution ordered their detention for seven days for interrogation before referring them to court,” the semi official daily Alittihad said.
