Diesel prices for Dubai, Sharjah and northern emirates have been increased by 20 fils per litre and transport companies are saying that it will definitely have an impact on profits.

“Our prices are fixed for the next six months and therefore, we will not be able to increase it now. However, there could be a review after the current timeframe,” said Grant Roberts, Purchasing Manager at Byrne Equipment Rental LLC in Dubai.

Another company that rents out mini-trucks said it might pass on the cost to customers.

“It might just be Dh0.20 per litre, but it will still have an impact on rental services. We have still not decided, but will definitely pass it on to customers,” said Shakeer Ahmed of ZK transport.

“I have been charging Dh450 for a trip between Abu Dhabi to Dubai. But we will increase it to Dh500 per trip,” he said.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7 Col Augustine of STS Transport, that operates about 1,200 school busses for GEMS Education, said there are no immediate plans to increase the rates.

“Given the number of vehicles we operate, the increase will definitely have an impact. But there are no immediate plans to pass on the charges,” he said.
