This morning, Dubai residents woke up to find dense cloud cover over the emirate, raising the spectre that perhaps the clouds that led to the drizzle over Fujairah, might have found their way to Dubai to cool off the emirate, which for most of last week had endured temperatures hovering near 50 degrees Celsius.

The National Centre of Metrology and Seismology’s (NCMS) forecast, however, is a cooler for the rain-hopers.Today’s forecast says there will be hot weather in general during the daytime, becoming hazy at times.

The forecast does say that it will be cloudy, with some towering clouds developing over the mountains. Moderate winds will gradually becoming fresh by the afternoon and may blow dust over the internal areas.

Relative humidity is likely to increase during the night. The sea will be moderate-to-rough in the afternoon.

In Sharjah as well, reports have been coming in that the sky has been very cloudy since morning.

Rain during this time of year is unusual, as summer in the UAE is characterised by high temperatures and humidity.

Rain in Fujairah

Emirates 24|7 reader Sahar Samir reported to this website: “We had slight rain in Fujairah Kalba area. Right now it's so cloudy, looks like will rain again. Very pleasant weather.

A source within the National Centre of Metrology and Seismology (NCMS) said that although the centre had not reported any rain, satellite pictures confirmed the plausibility of the

“Satellite pictures showed that the eastern region was covered with low stratum clouds in the early morning,” said the source, adding that this could have led to rain in Fujairah and the eastern coast of the country.

“These clouds are dissolving at the moment. By afternoon there should be less of these clouds and rain is not likely to appear.”

Temperatures have been recorded between 32-37 C° today, the lowest temperatures measured in Fujairah.

The stratum clouds were coming from Bahar Oman, said the NCMS source.
