The Al Faga'a area on Dubai-Al Ain Road witnessed medium to heavy rain on Tuesday evening, Al Bayan reports.

Sharjah also witnessed heavy rainfall which led to wadis being flooded with water. Rains continued intermittently and were accompanied by winds.

Rain sparks low-vis warning

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology  (NCMS) has urged motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed when driving because of wind activity kicking up dust and sand.

Horizontal visibility is forecast to be reduced to less than 1,000 metres.

The centre also forecast forming of  cumulus clouds in the east, which could be accompanied by rain.

Rain in Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman

The Al Hanya area near Fujairah and Manama in Ajman witnessed medium rainfall, according to the National Centre of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS).

The Al Suhila area of Sharjah also witnessed light rainfall.

NCMS has warned of cumulus clouds forming, accompanied by rain and strong winds kicking up dust and sand, leading to low visibility in the eastern and southeastern areas.

The sea forecast is mild-to-moderate waves with relative humidity increasing.

The NCMS has forecast maximum temperatures of between 45 degrees and 48 degrees Centigrade.

Cloud seeding at the go

Last week’s rainy climes along the east coast may not have a repeat performance this weekend, despite the towering clouds looming in the horizon over the eastern Al Hajjar mountain range.

The UAE’s weather bureau have largely ruled out rainfall in these parts, stating it is ‘unlikely’, even as the rest of the country prepares to battle the heat with temperatures spiking to highs just shy of 50 degrees Celsius.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, the NCMS stated: “There will be no big change in the weather over the weekend, with cloud cover visible over the eastern mountain range that would highly unlikely result in any form of rainfall in the UAE.

“Even so, we do have planes on standby in case we find the opportunity for cloud seeding to facilitate rains in the area.”

The Mercury itself is playing spoilsport, with sunny climes making way for heat and humidity in the next 48 hours.

The NCMS further stated temperatures on Friday and Saturday could reach highs of 49 degrees Celsius in the UAE’s internal areas, while the coastal areas would be five degrees lower. Lows of 44 degrees would average during morning hours.

Meanwhile, humidity levels are said to spike to highs of 95 per cent near the coastal areas, late night and early morning, according to the NCMS, adding: “We can expect fog and mist in those parts during those hours due to the muggy weather.”

The sea would be moderate in general over the weekend, with the NCMS stating the Oman Sea, north of Hormuz could get rough on Friday.
