UAE weather warning: Heavy fog; visibility drops to 25m in parts

Heavy fog engulfed Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the early hours, with visibility dropping to a mere 25 metres in some parts of the UAE.
 
Authorities have warned motorists to proceed with caution and drive with headlights or fog lights to ensure safety on the roads.

Earlier, the UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said: “Vision is now at 100 metres in Dubai and Jebel Ali and 150 meters in Sharjah.”
 
The fog was heavier in open areas where visibility, with the NCMS confirming continued low visibility in some of the northern regions and the interior western region.
 
The authority continued also confirmed the worst hit area was Menhad, where visibility dropped to mere 50 metres.

Earlier this morning, parts of Al Ain reported foggy conditions from as early as 1am, with NCMS also tweeting at the time: “Heavy fog on the city of Al Ain and all roads leading to it, as well as dense fog in all interior areas of the state.”
 
The NCMS forecasted for Tuesday that humidity is likely to increase during night and early morning times over some internal and coastal areas.
 
Motorists have been advised to drive carefully and slow during heavy fog in order to avoid serious traffic accidents.
 
Dubai Civil Defence tweeted: “Dear drivers be aware of heavy fog, watch your speed in keep enough distance.”

The fog was heavier in open areas where visibility was reduced to just few hundred metres.
