Ultimatum for owners of 18 abandoned buildings

Dubai Municipality has issued ultimatum to owners of 18 abandoned buildings in Dubai.

The new order will be applicable to 18 buildings that were abandoned or neglected half way during construction. The buildings are located in  Al Barsha, Al Warqa, Al Khawanej, Al Qusais, Al Qouz, Umm Suqiem, Umm Sheif, Al Safouh and AlManara.

Six of the buildings are located in Al  Barsha.

The civic body has given one week to the owners to continue construction or to demolish the buildings. If the parties fail to respond to the order within one week, the civic body will demolish them in which case owners will have to pay the cost of demolition plus 20 per cent administration charges.

The municipality said abandoned buildings were sometimes used by anti-social elements and for conducting illegal businesses.
