UN official reviews UAE's judicial system

The Dubai Prosecution reviewed guarantees of the independence of the UAE judicial system with an UN official on Thursday.

Gabriela Knaul, UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers of the UN Human Rights Council, visited Dubai Prosecution with her team and reviewed with officials the independence of the UAE judicial system.

A team of officials headed by Hamad Juma Al Khlagi, Chief Prosecutor, explained Dubai Prosecution’s strategy that  is aimed at ensuring justice to all as quickly as possible.

Dubai Prosecution seeks accuracy and speed in investigations especially in penal cases through specialised prosecution sections. The team also explained the relation between the local and the federal judicial systems.

Guarantees of investigative procedures and fair and just judgments were also explained.

Responding to queries about these guarantee, the team explained how they are maintained in the UAE Constitution and how laws and regulations are enforced in the country. The UAE legislature strives to maintain rights and freedoms, they added.
