Unlicensed semi-trailers to be fined: RTA

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai will start issuing fines for lorry trailers bearing no registration numbers, whether they are owned by individuals, firms or public entities, starting from April 15 this year.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA 's Licensing Agency, said, "The RTA continuously seeks to realise its vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all through implementing several initiatives and services. We have set plans for completing registration and licensing of semi-trailers to ensure their roadworthiness and compatibility with traffic safety stipulations, in which the registration is accountably an evidence of ownership of such machinery by the concerned entity.''

Bahrozyan added, ''Since the launch of the numbering and registration service of semi-trailers last September, the RTA has completed licensing 118 semi-trailers, and we call upon the concerned parties to expedite the testing, numbering and licensing of their semi-trailers at the service centres of Tamam Al Ghandi, Tasjeel Jebel Ali, Tasjeel Al Warsan, and Al Shirawi Enterprises. This would ensure that such machinery is roadworthy and have no accidents or offences reported against them. The RTA will start an inspection campaign next April to report violations against illegal semi-trailers. The licensing and registration of semi-trailers will be required once every three years for individuals while companies have to undergo tests annually to ensure their road worthiness.''
