Vehicle confiscation for non-renewed licences

Twenty-thousand vehicles have been seized by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police for non-renewal licences, Al Bayan reports.

Abu Dhabi Police have tightened traffic controls in various ways to ensure laws are in force and motorists who drive vehicles without a valid licence will be fined Dh400 and the vehicle will be confiscated for seven days.

The report quotes an official stating that the law allows a month’s deadline after the vehicle licence has expired, to allow the driver to renew the license.

The report also lists other fines as follows:

Vehicle polluting the environment - Dh500

Vehicle not roadworthy - Dh200 and custody of vehicle for 7 days

Violation of tyres’ validity - Dh200
