Virgin Atlantic flight departs from Dubai after additional security check

Additional security checks were applied to a Virgin Atlantic aircraft in Dubai on Tuesday.

Dubai Airports said in a statement that the flight was delayed whilst additional security checks were carried out in close cooperation with Dubai Police and the airline, following which the aircraft was cleared for departure.

A Virgin Atlantic flight bound for London from Dubai was evacuated earlier today following a security incident.

Dubai Airports confirmed the aircraft was delayed whilst additional security checks were carried out.

"These were carried out in close cooperation with Dubai Police and the airline, following which the aircraft was cleared for departure," the statement read.

Virgin said in a statement Tuesday that passengers onboard Flight No VS401 at Dubai International Airport "temporarily disembarked the aircraft for additional security checks."

Virgin says that "this is purely as a precautionary measure as the safety of our customers and crew is our No. 1 priority."

It called the threat against the Airbus A330 as "non-credible," without elaborating.
