Visa card thief caught on camera

A man who stole a visa card was arrested a few days later after he was caught on camera trying to use the card in a shop in Fujeirah.

Police in the eastern emirate had launched a man hunt for the thief following a report by the visa card holder that his purse had been stolen.

“Police identified a suspect….their suspicions were true when the suspect tried to use the card in a shop, where he was filmed by the security camera,” the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said, adding that he was jailed for three months.


Two held in RAK for embezzlement

Police in Ras Al Khaimah arrested two Asian men for embezzling Dh1.2 million from a man of the same nationality by selling him property which does not exist.

The man told police he paid the sum to the two men in return for documents showing they own a land plot in their home country.

“When he went home later, the man found that the land does not exist… he returned to the emirate and reported the two to the police,” the Sharjah-based Alkhaleej newspaper said.

Three held for possessing 4.5 million fake dollar notes

Ras Al Khaimah authorities arrested three African men on charges of trying to circulate nearly 4.5 million fake dollar notes in the northern emirate.

Police said they arrested the three after raiding their house in the city’s outskirts following a tip off that they possessed fake notes and are trying to circulate them in the local market, according to press reports.

The prosecutor released two of them on bail while ordered the detention of the third defendant pending their trial, they said.
