Hundreds of people are expected to take part in a walkathon to be organised by the Arab Media Forum (AMF) in Dubai under the motto “walk to serve humanity” to raise funds to support medical research in the country.

The AMF, to be held in Dubai during May 10-11, will stage the event with the help of Aljalila Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, for promoting medical education and research in the UAE.

The AMF said it would donate Dh170 for every 100 metres done by the participants, adding that each of them would wear a smart bracelet to measure walked distance.

“We want to ensure that the AMF will have a positive contribution to humanity and serving people to take advantage of the presence of more than 2,000 participants in the forum,” said Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Director-General of the Government of Dubai Media Office, Chairperson of the AMF Organising Committee and President of Dubai Press Club.

“This initiative has a dual purpose…it will raise funds to support research for serious diseases and at the same time promote exercise and healthy lifestyle.”

Abdul Karim Sultan, Aljalila’s executive present, said the “walk to serve humanity” initiative is a “significant step to support the Foundation’s role in funding medical research on the most serious diseases in our world.”
