Teams from the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence extinguished a huge fire that broke out on Tuesday evening in a textile storage unit in a prominent shopping centre in Abu Dhabi.

Firefighters managed to contain the flames and prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent warehouses; no injuries or casualties were reported.

Captain Abdullah Al Tamimi, Head of Public Relations and Customer Service Section at the Directorate General of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, indicated that both Al Falah centre for rapid intervention and Al Madina center were immediately despatched to the location to handle the situation.

“Responding teams cooled the area. Investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances of the fire,” he added.

He also urged store owners to take preventive and necessary safety measures set by the competent authorities for storing clothes and plastic materials. He also stressed the need to install smoke detectors and portable fire extinguishers. He also warned against putting obstacles on windows.

He also pointed out to the importance of providing good ventilation for warehouses, particularly those containing flammable materials and chemicals affected by rising temperatures.
