Water in petrol: Emarat station still shut

Emarat’s Ibn Battuta fuel station continues to remain closed for the second day after it was temporarily shut for inspection on Monday.

The reason for the closure was water contaminating one of the underground fuel tanks.

A staff member at the petrol station told Emirates 24|7 on Tuesday: “The station is closed. No date has been given on when we will open the fuel station for motorists.”

Hussain Kazim, Manager, Corporate Communications, Emarat, confirmed to this website on Monday that water had seeped into one of the underground fuel storage tanks, stalling at least 15.

“As a precaution, we are checking all the underground tanks in the station. We will look into the matter after getting the inspection and technical reports.”

When asked about compensation, the official said they would certainly compensate those affected in all possible ways.

Motorists who requested for ‘Super’ variety fuel at the Ibn Battuta fuel station saw their cars getting stalled on Sunday.

Residents of communities such as The Gardens, Jebel Ali Village and Discovery Gardens use the Ibn Battuta station, as it is the only one in their vicinity.

Shrada Singh, a resident of Discovery Gardens, says: “I had read about the fuel station’s temporary closure, but simply forgot. When I drove there this morning, it was closed. Fortunately, I had petrol enough to reach another station on Sheikh Zayed Road.”

Emarat’s Ibn Battuta fuel station will be closed for at least a week, according to sources.
