Wet weather in UAE: Heavy downpour in Abu Dhabi

UAE residents have woken up to a rainy morning on Thursday with some parts of the country experiencing overnight rains, accompanied by thunder and lightning.

While Dubai and Sharjah experienced heavy to light rains in the early hours of the day, Emirates 24|7 readers in Abu Dhabi reported heavy rainfall in the UAE capital around 9:30am.

The National Center for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) predicts "partly cloudy to cloudy weather at times, especially over northern, eastern and some of coastal areas."

The weatherman also mentions that there is a chance of rainfall, especially during the day.

Motorists need to drive with caution as the wet weather is likely to continue through the day.

The social networking site, Twitter is abuzz with traffic troubles on early Thursday morning. While some have been reporting poor visibility due to heavy rain on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, some others have been tweeting about water pools in their communities.

Meanwhile, overnight rains have resulted in traffic snarls in some areas of Dubai.

An Emirates 24|7 Reader, who is a resident of Discovery Gardens reported of major traffic gridlock in his community. At 6:58 am, he had already been stuck in traffic for more than half an hour and had decided to go back home and try to make it to work later in the day.
