Which festival shines the brightest in Dubai?

Which season accounts for the highest gold sales in Dubai? Is it the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), or is it… (no) surprise - Diwali.

Most gold merchants and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) say Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, is the top sales season for gold.

This is followed by ‘Akshaya Tritiya’, another Indian festival.

The DSF is ranked third with the huge tourist influx driving an increase in gold sales, says the DGJG.

The leading gold stores of Dubai have released the ranking of when gold is sold the most in their outlets.

Golden tips when buying jewellery:

According to Business Standard it is important for customers to keep in mind 3 things when buying gold which are: purity, weight, and design.

Carat: Malabar Gold says carat (or karat) is the term used to measure the proportion of gold in jewellery. Pure gold is 24 carats; 22 carat gold is defined as 91.67 per cent pure gold and 18 carat is 75 per cent pure gold.

Price: Although the price of gold is determined by factors of a global shifting market, according to Business Standard, the purity of gold and the amount of work that is spent on the piece also determine the price of the jewellery.

With many events that take place in Dubai, customers should look for the best price at different promotions that suits them.

Type of stone:  If you are buying gold that has stone embellishments, you should consider what kind of stone you want.

The size, color and type of stone are all important factors to consider. It is also important to ask the gold store that you are buying from to provide you with a certificate of authenticity for the stone.
