Why penalise parents who pay fees: Repton

Repton School has refused to comment on the expulsion of three Emirati siblings from its school over unpaid fees but has stressed that protecting such parents would tantamount to penalising parents who pay their dues on time.

“Repton School has a strict confidentiality policy and will never discuss the cases of individual parents or pupils. The school, therefore, will not comment on the particular case that is raised by your enquiry,” Felicity Bosworth, Director of Admissions at the school told Emirates 24|7.

“The school has, however, a history of working to support families where there is financial hardship. In all cases as much support and time is provided to make sure that there is minimum damage to the education of any child. However, the school also is aware of the need to protect the other parents who pay their fees and should not have to subsidise those who cannot meet their obligations.  The school continues to discuss cases such as these with KHDA,” she added.

The school expelled the three students after their father failed to pay up Dh332,000 in school fees for the children over two academic years. The father, a government employee, was unable to meet the school expenses due to financial reasons. The matter is now being discussed with Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). Meanwhile, the KHDA has made it clear that no student can be expelled from a school without prior approval from the authority.
