A woman is demanding Dh10 million damages from a doctor and his medical centre in Abu Dhabi after a specialized report showed he had committed a medical error that led to the death of her husband, the sole supporter of the family.

A court in Abu Dhabi which looked into the case this week adjourned hearings to October 15 pending the completion of investigation by a medical committee into the doctor’s actions following its report that he had committed a medical error.

The report showed the unnamed doctor had performed unnecessary cuts in the victim’s intestines during a surgery. He then discharged the patient hours after the operation on the grounds it was a simple surgery.

The doctor had to perform another operation after the man suffered from complications a few days later but he did not improve. He was then rushed to Almafraq hospital in the capital, where he had another surgery.

According to the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum, the patient’s condition later deteriorated and he died a few days later.

“The victim’s family demanded Dh10 million damages for the loss of their sole supporter…the court is due to consider the case again on October 15.”
