Wife wins divorce case against husband in RAK

A court in Ras Al Khaimah sided with a woman and divorced her from her husband for mistreating her and preventing her from continuing her studies, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The unidentified woman told court that just a month after their marriage a year ago, her husband started beating her up and refused her pleas to continue her studies despite his pre-marriage promise to let her study.

“The woman said that her husband then abandoned home and stopped all financial support for her,” 'Al Ittihad' daily said.

Despite repeated summons, the husband failed to appear in court, prompting the judge to grant his wife a divorce.

The paper said the court ordered the wife to pay back Dh15,000 to the husband but did not elaborate.
