Wild dogs attacked two farms in a remote Sharjah town under the cover of night and killed nearly 30 sheep and many chickens before fleeing the area.

Local farmers checking their farms in the morning said they found their sheep dead and many others wounded because of bites by the dogs.
After examining their traces, the farmers said they dogs appeared to have dug under the fence separating an industrial zone from residential areas in Suhaila town.

“We found that five dogs had come from Al Ghail industrial area which is separated from our houses and farms only by a fence,” Saif Al Shamsi, a farmer in Suhaila,  told the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm.

“These attacks have cost us a lot of money as one sheep has a value of at least Dh1,000…this is not the first time such an attack happens…six months ago, wild dogs killed nearly 47 sheep and injured 19 others in several farms in the area.”

The paper quoted health director at Dhaid municipality Abdullah Al Khasooni as saying snares would be set up in that area to capture those dogs.

He said the municipality has found that wild dogs are concentrated near a cement factory in Al Ghail area, adding that they could not track them down in the absence of permission allowing them to enter an area in another emirate.
