Everybody likes to have happy people around them including employers and recruitment managers.

One school of thought strongly supports the view that happy people tend to get more job offers and the main reason behind it is that happiness supports productivity, and happy people ideally have more contacts in their network as opposed to grumpy and perpetually sad ones.

Recently, a local member on networking site LinkedIn posted a quiz that challenged readers to find out whether they make others happy.

The happy ones, she believes are “happy magnets” and such people with positive attitude attract more professionals in their network, which ultimately leads to better job offers.

Here are six reasons that support the view that if you are happy, you will get more and better job offers in the country.

#1 Happiness enhances productivity

Happy people tend to work harder as they like their jobs and this enhances their productivity.

And, if you happen to be one such productive person, another company will be happy to hire you. If you decide to stick around in your current job, promotions, increments and bonuses are likely to come your way.

#2 Happy people are problem solvers

Happy employees also try to get to the problem and solve it. On the contrary, a person full of negativity will only complain of the problem and never look for solutions.

In a tough and competitive job market, hiring managers will definitely look for a problem solver and if you are a happy person, there are chances that you might be their pick at a job interview.

#3 Happy people influence the team

Happy people are full of energy and their motivation levels are high, which will naturally rub onto the other team members. People with a positive bent of mind will pass on their positive energy to other team members and many of them will try to reciprocate that.

#4 Happy people make happy customers

“1 Great Person = 3 Good People” philosophy is now quite acceptable among many businesses the world over and most companies can vouch for this.

A happy employee will try his best to keep the customers happy, which will mean more business for the company and that will translate into better pay and job offers for the happy employee. Simple logic, isn’t it?

#5 Happiness breeds creativity

Happy people come up with new and fresh ideas. According to Teresa Amabile, a professor at Harvard Business School, employees are far more likely to have new ideas on days when they feel happier.

Workers perform better when they are happily engaged in what they do so employees should try to be happy and the company that they work for should ensure that they are happily engaged.

#6 Happy people take less off days

Nobody can really take full control of their health, but it is a proven fact that unhappy people and those who detest their jobs tend to fall sick more often. This is due to work fatigue and stress, which reduces the productivity of the person immensely.

In a nutshell, there’s a clear link between happiness at work and productivity. And a productive employee is valued and wanted by hiring managers. Bosses want such people in their team and competition will try its best to poach you with a better job offer whereas your existing company will try its best to retain you.

On the contrary, a negative and unhappy employee is really not wanted. You may get fewer job offers due to your reputation and your company will be happy to relieve you if you ever wanted to quit.

So, be happy. It isn’t that difficult while you’re in the UAE, one of the happiest countries in the world.
