Will hazy UAE weather give way to rain?

With the Mercury level rising in parts of the country, the UAE’s weather department has suggested rain could be on the horizon with temperatures dipping by a few degrees to offer some respite from the heat.

With the holy month of Ramadan just days away, the weather climbed to highs of 48 degrees Celsius yesterday inland, with the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology  (NCMS) offering a meagre silver lining with the accelerated north-westerly winds bringing the temperature down by at least three degrees in the western region of Abu Dhabi.

A spokesperson said: “The accelerated winds over the Arabian Sea will cause some rough seas, but could see a slight correction in the high temperatures. However, with humidity levels standing at 95 per cent, the intensity of the heat will remain near the coastal areas.”

The NCMS also warned of early morning fog or mist descending down on part of the UAE, especially along the coastal parts of the UAE,

The spokesperson added: “On Wednesday, it will be partially cloudy, with a breeze from the Oman Sea pushing them into the horizon. If they form into convective clouds, then there is even a possibility of rain in the western region on Thursday.”

However, the spokesperson has warned that this slight correction in weather is a temporary phenomenon and the Mercury will continue to show highs of 40s in the coming weeks.

NCMS records indicate the highest ever temperature recorded in the UAE is 52 degrees Celsius on Al Yasat Island, off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
