An Indonesian woman who escaped her abusive sponsor but landed in a vice ring was paralysed in a fall from the third floor of a building while trying to escape from a brothel where she along with others were used as sex slaves by a racket led by a Bangladeshi man.

The 21-year-old woman, who had earlier escaped from her Emirati sponsor due to alleged maltreatment, fell in the vice den when a Pakistani man offered her a job but instead drove to a desert, raped her, and sold her to another man named Jehangir for Dh3,000.

She was soon confided to the flat in Bur Dubai where she was kept with other women who were forced to entertain men.

In the case that came up for hearing at the Dubai Court of First Instance, prosecutors have accused the 28-year old  Bangladeshi man SR, a carpeter by profession, of exploiting the financial condition of the Indonesian woman NR and six others and forcing them into flesh trade.

Prosecution has sought the accused to be sentenced to death, the maximum punishment under the UAE laws.

Medical reports confirmed that the woman would be disabled for life since both her legs are paralysed from the impact of the fall when the rope she made by tying pieces of cloth gave away.

Confirming her predicament starting from the maltreatment at the hands of her Emirati sponsor, and then falling into the hands of the Pakistani man who sold her to the sex racket, she said the keepers of the brothel used to keep a watch on all the women lodged in the flat.

She said they had to entertain men who paid Dh50, all of which went to the Bangladeshi brothel keeper.

When another Indonesian girl was brought to the place, NR hatched an escape plan when the keepers were asleep. Accordingly, she tied pieces of cloth to make a rope and then slither down the third-floor apartment. But after slithering down to the second floor the rope snapped and she went crashing.

The seven women rescued from the den comprise two Indonesians, an Indian and four Bangladeshis.
