A criminal court in Abu Dhabi acquitted an Arab woman of charges of human trade although she tried to sell another Arab girl to a secret police agent for Dh40,000, press reports said on Wednesday.

The unnamed woman was arrested in June when she handed the girl over to a policeman acting as a customer but in court she denied involvement in human trade on the grounds the girl was seeking a job and she tried to help her.

Sound recordings between the two woman showed the defendant sought to hand over the girl to the presumed customer to give her a job in return for a Dh40,000 fee and that the girl had not been subject to any sort of violence or coercion.

“After listening to sound recordings which were verified by a sound expert from Abu Dhabi television, the judge decided the woman was not involved in human trade and acquitted her,” Emirat Alyoum said.

It did not identify the girl who said she met the woman in an Arab country and asked her to help bring her to the UAE to get a job.
