Women caused 352 road accidents across the UAE last year, Emarat Al Youm has reported.

According to statistics of the General Department of Traffic Coordination in the Ministry of the Interior, accidents caused by women led to the deaths of 28 persons and 579 others were injured.

Women were involved in 375 incidents in 2013, resulting in the deaths of 36 people and injuring 662.

Meanwhile, the report  pointed out that the main causes of traffic accidents involving women is due to a lack of attention and being involved in other activities while driving - such as speaking on the phone.

The report cited entering the road without being sure that the road is free and sudden moving between lanes as other causes.

According to the report, women driving in the UAE are generally safe and prudent.

A study conducted by the Abu Dhabi Police earlier about traffic incidents caused by women indicated that women driving long distances and some preferring 4x4 cars are also factors in accidents.

The study pointed out that driving in special health conditions, such as pregnancy and PMS, made women suffer symptoms such as hypertension, headaches, tension and nausea.

The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Directorate General of Traffic Coordination has launched its first, unified traffic awareness campaign for 2015, which will last for three months from January.
