Worker pours hot oil on roommate

A criminal court in Abu Dhabi sentenced an Asian construction worker to one year in prison and ordered him to pay Dh80,000 fine for pouring boiling oil on his roommate, causing serious burns to his face.

The worker had confessed he poured hot oil on his colleague’s face following a heated argument over the air conditioning in their room at the construction site.

He said their foreman later decided to move him to another room to end persistent scuffles on whether the AC should remain on all the time.

Newspapers said the defendant waited for the victim as he emerged out of the bathroom and splashed boiling oil from a pan on his face, telling him :”If you like the heat, then take some of it.”
