World's largest lantern in UAE souq

Souq Al Jubail in Sharjah has achieved the Guinness World Records title for the largest lantern.

The lantern, which was designed and built by Global Event Management Group, is located at the entrance to the Souq and stands at exactly 15.5 metres high and 5.6 metres wide.

In accordance with Guinness World Records’ guidelines, the working structure is an exact scaled replica of an actual lantern and casts a gorgeous, warm glow over the entrance to the market.

Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Souq Al Jubail, said: "We were absolutely thrilled when we received the news that we had been awarded the prestigious Guinness World Records title. The lantern, which now stands as an iconic new landmark at the waterfront of Sharjah, will bring even more people to the market to enjoy our high-quality, cost-effective produce from the farm and sea. The lantern has been on display since the 27th of June and will be a permanent feature at the Souq."

The unveiling of the lantern forms part of Souq Al Jubail's ongoing Ramadan Festival.
