Chairman of the UAE Writers Association, Dr Habib Al Sayegh, on Sunday praised His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for launching the Reading Nation campaign as part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.

The initiative seeks to provide refugee children and school pupils with two million books, establish 2,000 libraries and support educational and humanitarian programmes in Muslim countries.

Al Sayegh, Secretary-General of General Union of Arab Writers, said that the UAE has a sense of responsibility towards intellectual development, enlightenment and promotion of knowledge.

He also noted that the UAE's approach reflect a deep understanding of the risks of extremism, the elimination of which requires what is beyond security approaches, political initiatives and even direct education.

Al Sayegh said children and youth should be immunised against the risks of extremism to enable them to participate in planning for the future of security, peace, prosperity and noble values.
