Toyota Motor Corporation has recalled nearly 95,000 vehicles in the UAE due to safety and technical problems.

The company is recalling 41,377 vehicles of Yaris; 24,804 Hilux, Fortuner, and Innova vehicles; and 28,605 vehicles of Camry and RAV4 models across the UAE, Al-Futtaim Motors, distributor of Toyota vehicles in the UAE, said in statement.

The company is recalling vehicles due to faults parts of driver seats, steering wheel and spiral cables.

The automobile major said it’s recalling 2,377 Yaris vehicles with production date between 2005 and 2009 for Instrument Panel Reinforcement service in the UAE.

“Due to insufficient strength of the mounting bracket for the steering column located in the Instrument Panel Reinforcement Assembly (IPR), a crack could develop in the bracket; this phenomenon may occur if the driver is frequently and forcefully turning the steering wheel to the full-lock position. The driver may notice an abnormal creaking noise from the steering column mounting bracket,” Al-Futtaim Motors said.

However, another 39,000 Yaris vehicles with production date between 2005 and 2010 will be recalled for servicing the seat track in the UAE.

In the affected vehicles, the spring used for the mechanism which locks the driver’s seat rail in its adjusting positions could break if the seat is adjusted with high frequency. If this occurs, the seat may not be fully locked in position. In limited instances, the broken spring could become stuck in the seat rail, and the seat might appear to be locked in position.

Al-Futtaim will recall 24,804 vehicles of Hilux, Fortuner, and Innova models while another 28,605 Camry and RAV4 vehicles due to the spiral cable problem.

It said that due to potential damage of an electrical connection in the spiral cable assembly, the connectivity to the driver’s airbag could be affected. If connectivity is lost, the air bag warning lamp will illuminate. In addition, the driver’s air bag could become deactivated, causing it to not deploy in the event of an accident, the statement said.

The distributor said it will contact all customers with affected vehicles to service or replace the affected parts of the vehicles.

Globally, Toyota announced recall of 6.39 million vehicles on Wednesday due to a string of problems.

The recall will affect 1.08 million vehicles in Japan, 2.3 million in North America, 770,000 in Europe and 62,000 in China, with the rest from other regions.

In 2012, Toyota globally recalled 7.43 million vehicles.
