Emirati child left in car suffocates to death

A one-year-old Emirati girl has died of suffocation and heat exhaustion after being left inside a car.

The incident took place in Ruwais in the Western Region, Colonel Ajil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director, Police Directorate, Western Region, said, adding that the girl was a year and seven months old and that her family left her in the car and forgot she was there.

He expressed deep regret at the death of the child, explaining that the police received an emergency call on the day of the incident –  July 10 – and rushed to the spot and moved the girl to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are still underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

Abu Dhabi Police have said that they are especially concerned over the frequent occurrence of such accidents, despite continued warnings and public awareness drives.

Col Junaibi urged parents to protect their children and not to allow the occurrence of such accidents that claim the lives of the innocent.
