Emirati killed in car-power pole accident

A young Emirati man was killed and his friend was injured when their car slammed into a power pole on a key road in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain because of excessive speed, according to police.

The accident occurred near Alqalaa (fort) roundabout in Jemmi area just after midnight when their speeding car rammed into a power pylon, said colonel Hamad al Baloushi, head of Al Ain traffic police.

A 22-year-old Emirati, identified as AM, was killed while the driver suffered from medium injuries and was transferred to hospital, he said.

“Preliminary investigation showed that the accident was caused by excessive speed,” he said, quoted by the semi official daily Alittihad.
