Four Filipino construction workers, apparently wanting to taste camel meat, snatched a new-born desert animal from a nearby farm, slaughtered it at their home and cooked it.

The crime was discovered nearly 45 days later, when the Saudi camel owner stumbled across severed limbs and head, which he immediately recognised as his stolen camel.

After reporting them, police arrested the four Filipinos and sent them to court in the southern town of Najran, but they denied the accusations by the Saudi farmer, prompting court to free them on bail on Thursday pending trial.

The farmer had told police his baby camel was grazing near the accommodation of the expatriate workers when it disappeared.

“He showed the police the site where he found the camel’s severed limbs and head.

“He said he was sure they belonged to his camel,” Sabq daily said.
